Rod Pyle, Ad Astra editor, space author and historian, will be featured speaker (available via Zoom) at the next National Space Society Iowa Chapter meeting.

Rod spent the month of August above the Arctic Circle at NASA’s Haughton-Mars Project base, documenting their extensive research in Mars analog tests of space suits, mobility systems, sample acquisition systems, and surface traverse. He also worked with a team from MIT on an exciting new radio astronomy experience. The HMP base, sited next to the Haughton Impact Crater, is the highest-fidelity Mars analog on Earth. Cold, barren, windswept, and gritty, it’s not an experience for the meek, but is a fascinating peek into the conditions that face us on the Red Planet. Join us for this amazing journey into the future.
