Simplified Artificial Intelligence Networks of Systems for a Small Space Settlement on the Moon or Mars (see full paper, abstract below)

By Bryce L. Meyer

Abstract

Smaller space settlements will need to minimize resupply, perform missions, and possibly host tenant enterprises, while also surviving long term. Given the initially small population, there will be extensive gaps in knowledge and training, and inability to see everything happening at the settlement while performing work. As a result, various artificial intelligence (AI) systems are required to perform a variety of tasks, supplement expertise, and swiftly respond to preserve life and function. These diverse systems should be arranged near the point of action, be able to process large datasets, and assist the humans in many tasks. Many of these AI systems are already in use in indoor farms, chemical and machine factories, network operations, and on-line. This paper introduces the reader to the diversity of model systems lumped under AI, how they can be connected using existing protocols and networks, and how they could be used in an example scenario.
