The NSS chapter Chicago Society for Space Studies (CSSS) has just launched their new website with the primary objective of improving the chapter’s web presence. While Chicago Society for Space Studies is a NSS chapter, it predates the NSS and traces its origins back to a series of classes on space settlement conducted by Chicago’s Adler Planetarium in 1977.

Prior to 2000, the organization’s activites focused on monthly meetings and its print newsletter Spacewatch. Post 2000, CSSS outreach activities shifted as a consequence of its creation of a Speakers Bureau. The deployment of the new website coincides with the addition of two new speakers to the CSSS Speakers Bureau: Dr. Gerald Jackson and Mr. Dale Dellutri. This brings to 8 the number of CSSS speakers providing space-related presentations in Chicago and throughout northeastern Illinois. It was in recognition of the effectiveness of the CSSS Speakers Bureau that CSSS received the NSS 2019 Chapter Award for Excellence in Speaker Outreach.

The next CSSS event will be a panel discussion on The Impact of Apollo.

Chicago Society for Space Studies is 1 of more than 30 NSS chapters with a website. To find out whether or not there is a NSS chapter near you, visit the NSS Chapters Directory. You can see the Chicago Society for Space Studies new website at www.chicagospace.org.
