Yes! Space Needs Lawyers

With special guest

Michelle Hanlon Space Forum

Michelle Hanlon
Executive Director, Air and Space Law Program
University of Mississippi
Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Space Law and the Journal of Drone Law and Policy
Co-Founder, President, and CEO, For All Moonkind, Inc.
Former President of NSS

Join us for an illuminating and timely discussion about the evolving landscape of space law with Michelle Hanlon, former President of NSS and one of today’s leading experts in space policy. As nations and private companies race to establish a presence on the Moon and beyond, the legal frameworks that govern outer space activities are being put to the test. The Outer Space Treaty, once a pioneering foundation, now shows its age, leaving major questions unanswered about resource rights, private sector operations, and international cooperation.

In this special forum, Michelle will explore:

  • The race for lunar resources and what it means for property rights in space
  • The role of the United Nations’ Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), including the Working Group on Space Resources and the new Action Team on Lunar Activity Consultation (ATLAC)
  • How the Artemis Accords and the International Lunar Research Station partners are working—sometimes outside the UN framework—to establish new norms for space activities
  • The growing complexities of mission authorization as private space companies launch increasingly ambitious projects
  • Key developments, including the proposed deorbit of the International Space Station and NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program

This is your opportunity to get a front-row seat to the pressing legal and policy debates shaping our future in space. Whether you’re a space enthusiast, policy advocate, or just curious about how the rules of the cosmic road are being written, you won’t want to miss this discussion.
