A Private Astronaut’s Journey to Space

With special guest

Ron Rosano

Ron Rosano
Spaceflight Educator, Commercial Astronaut,
and Global Space Awareness Advocate

Spaceflight has entered a new age, and access to space is no longer limited to professionally trained astronauts. Commercial spaceflight pioneers like Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are making it possible for nonprofessionals to experience the thrill of space travel. In this Space Forum, we’ll hear from one such private astronaut, Ron Rosano.

Ron on Virgin Galactic spacecraft

In 2023, Ron flew aboard VSS Unity as Virgin Galactic Astronaut 17, becoming the 668th human to journey into space. In this Space Forum, he will share his extraordinary experience—from the training he underwent to the breathtaking moment at apogee, and what it felt like to float in weightlessness.

A lifelong space and astronomy educator, Ron’s journey to space was a realization of his deep passion for exploration. But beyond personal achievement, he is committed to inspiring the next generation. His flight provided him with a profound perspective on Earth as a fragile oasis against the vast emptiness of space. Through his story, Ron aims to ignite curiosity and motivate students to a greater understanding of our place in the universe and inspire them to join him in this exploration. For a preview of Ron’s spaceflight experience see this video on YouTube.
