They came looking for opportunities to soar their careers into the atmosphere and beyond. More than 378 diverse and talented individuals attended the first Aerospace/Aviation Workforce & Career Exploration Day on August 14 at the Sands Space History Center in Cape Canaveral. Job seekers ranged from university students seeking internships and co-ops to mid-career professionals pursuing new opportunities in the aerospace industry.
The Workforce & Career Exploration Day was the result of the tireless efforts of NSS member Robert Katz, CEO and Executive Director of the World Innovation Network (WIN), and Stephanie Robinson, Project Coordinator at CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia. The main objective of the Workforce & Career Exploration Day was to link talent to the many career opportunities that are part of the Florida space region’s ecosystem. More than twenty aerospace/aviation employers and thirty-seven community collaborator partners were represented.
Well-established companies like Northrop Grumman participated alongside newcomers like Vaya Space. Another welcome employer was Blue Origin, which does not typically participate in these types of public events. These companies all had opportunities they were eager to showcase and offer to prospective employees. Educational institutions like Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Eastern Florida State College were there, highlighting their programs to prepare students for strong aerospace and aviation careers.
The day began with energy and anticipation, even before the job seekers arrived. Each community collaborator was introduced with pride and given the opportunity to share their organization’s mission with fellow collaborators and industry partners. We were then delighted to welcome Council Member Kay Jackson from the City of Cape Canaveral, who presented the Mayor’s Proclamation recognizing Aerospace/Aviation Workforce & Career Exploration Day. The opening ceremonies reached a high point as the Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Titusville Composite Squadron color guard proudly presented and posted the colors.
The National Space Society (NSS) was honored to be among the very first invited by Robert Katz and Stephanie Robinson to participate. Joining me at the event were NSS member Elizabeth Schneider, CEO of Galactic Medallion, and NSS Board of Directors member Gabriel Rothblatt. At our booth, we were proud to welcome attendees and provide valuable insights on job searches and advice on effective communication techniques. We also shared NSS’s mission and role in the space community and the advantages of becoming a member of our organization.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement, optimism, and enthusiasm. It was heartening to witness so many companies and community organizations uniting to support job seekers. The passion displayed by those seeking new opportunities underscored the promising future of the aerospace and aviation industry, ensuring that it will be in capable hands.
The Aerospace/Aviation Workforce & Career Exploration Day was more than just a job fair; it was a celebration of the talent and potential within the Florida space community, paving the way for the next generation of aerospace professionals.
