The Origin
The NSS Global Space Debates continues the legacy of the debates formerly known as the NSS spUN Debates (an acronym for space policy and Universalizaton). The concept of ‘Who owns the universe?’ was presented at the NSS International Space Development Conference in St. Louis, MO. Students in attendance heard a perspective about the importance of considering expanding ideas, technologies, or practices (like internet access) to a global scale, and even into interplanetary, interstellar, or galactic contexts; thus, preparing the way for space settlement.

This idea inspires the next generation to expand thinking beyond Earth and envision a future where humanity lives, works, and thrives across the cosmos.
As the realization of the Artemis Program has begun, the NSS Global Debates (GSD) heralds an exciting phase of bringing the New Generation into the discussion of human activities in space.
GSD gives an extraordinary opportunity to students worldwide to learn the subject matter of living and working in space and finding their voice in expressing their positions and supporting their teammates in a unique STEM competition.
