NASA’s 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge

NASA and partner Bradley University of Peoria, Illinois are holding a $2.5 million competition to build a 3-D printed habitat for deep space exploration, including the agency’s journey to Mars. The multi-phase challenge is designed to advance the construction technology needed to create sustainable housing solutions for Earth and beyond.

Last month Level 1 of Phase 3 of the competition was completed and the top five teams shared a $100,000 prize for this phase of the competition. Winning teams successfully created digital representations of the physical and functional characteristics of a house on Mars using specialized software tools. The competition will subsequently focus on fabrication of complete habitats by May, 2019.

The five winning teams have videos online of their designs. They are:

First Place ($20,957.95): Team Zopherus of Rogers, Arkansas (image at top of post).
