Category: Asteroid Settlements
Description: The asteroid settlement pictured consists of two asteroids attached by cables, which are rotating to simulate gravity (0.1 G in this case). The settlement is in a very high orbit around Mars. A second asteroid pair has just been assembled and is in view. The image is a view through a window of a “cable runner” vehicle, which is travelling along one of the cables.
Medium/Tools Used: The art piece was produced using Photoshop version 5.5. Some of the buildings on the asteroid are hand made 3D models. Much of the image is photo composite work, using images taken by the artist. Some of the structures in the image were produced using Photoshop art tools, as were the shading and lighting effects.
