
Maryam Kalhor, S.J.D.
Dr. Maryam Kalhor is an international law scholar and space policy researcher working at the intersection of space governance, intellectual property, AI policy, and emerging technologies. She serves as Director of Research for the Space Tourism Industry Report (STIR) and previously served as Associate Producer for the Space Tourism Conference, where she contributed to the legal and policy foundations of the commercial space sector.
She holds a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) in international law and space policy, two Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees in international law, including one in International Law and International Organizations, an LL.B., and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights. She completed Advanced Studies in Public International Law at The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands.
Education and public engagement are central to Dr. Kalhor’s work. She has lectured at the university level, serves as an educator with the Los Angeles Unified School District, and mentored students in international space engineering design competitions. She is also the founder and tutor of an award-winning NGO dedicated to youth education and women’s empowerment. As a National Space Society Space Ambassador, she brings the legal and policy dimensions of space exploration to diverse audiences through education, public engagement, and professional presentations.
