ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT: AIR REVITALIZATION
Efforts toward the development of Advanced Life Support Systems
for Air Revitalization inlcude: the use of microalgal bioreactors,
higher plants, and electrochemical techniques for the generation of
oxygen from carbon dioxide; the use of advanced sorbents, membrane
and electrochemical methods for separating carbon dioxide from the
atmosphere; the use of catalytically active regenerable sorbents and
photocatalytic oxidation methods for trace organic contaminant
control; and vapor phase catalytic oxiation of ammonia. References to
these methods are provided below.
