The National Space Society vision is people living and working in space

15 July 1998

(Washington, DC) -- July 15 -- Members of the Orange County Space Society, a chapter of the National Space Society, will be greeting visitors to Space Fair 98 at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, with displays and information on space tourism and the human spaceflight program. The chapter, comprised of volunteers and members of the space advocacy organization, is coordinator for the "Space Treasures" showroom at the Fair, which takes place July 17 - 26.

"We're the pit boss for that area," said Jeff Howe, secretary for OCSS. "We have the responsibility for planning the display of items from a number of space groups including Superior Galleries, Universal Pictures and NASA."

The OCSS is representing the over 23,000 members of the National Space Society who advocate humans living and working in space. The chapter, which won the Most Outstanding Chapter Award for 1997, is one of 90 similar volunteer-based groups around the world that develop, or assist with, space-related events in their communities.

"We salute the work of the OCSS and thank them for providing the NSS with a presence at this forward-thinking event," said Pat Dasch, executive director for the NSS. "And we wish the best of luck and a successful event to the organizers of Space Fair 98."

Space Fair 98 is being presented by The Space Tourism Society, and Space Fair 98, Inc. The ten-day event is a family-oriented festival celebrating what might happen on a space-based vacation adventure. Other featured groups and companies include Space Adventures tourism company; the Civilian Astronaut Corps; the X-Prize Foundation; Celestis, Inc.; Boeing; Lockheed Martin Corporation; and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).

The National Space Society, founded in 1974, is an independent, nonprofit space advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Its 23,000 members and 90 chapters around the world actively promote a spacefaring civilization. Information on NSS and space exploration is available at
