(Washington, DC) -- March 4 -- The National Space Society today unveiled its latest online space outreach project at www.nss.org/apollo. "From the Earth to the Moon -- An Interactive Viewer's Guide" is a companion website to the HBO miniseries of the same name which premieres on April 5.

The NSS site offers visitors a look into the HBO series as well as the space voyages which were its inspiration. Visitors can expect unprecedented access to the actors and astronauts involved in both the HBO series and the true-life Apollo program through live "web chats," and question/answer forums.

The site also offers visitors the chance to "visit" the Moon through Quicktime VR movies of each Apollo landing site. Generated from photographs taken by the astronauts, the multimedia files offer the closest feeling to actually standing on the Moon and viewing the surrounding area.

"From the Earth to the Moon -- An Interactive Viewer's Guide" will expand to include episode-specific programming as the HBO miniseries proceeds. In addition to the chats, the NSS site will offer a look at the actual missions through first-hand accounts and multimedia presentations.

The 12-part HBO series, "From the Earth to the Moon," follows the full story of the Apollo space program from the 1961 presidential challenge that inspired it to the 1969-1972 lunar voyages that defined it. Produced with the cooperation of NASA, the series is executive produced by two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks.

The National Space Society, founded in 1974, is an independent, nonprofit space advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Its 23,000 members and 90 chapters around the world actively promote a spacefaring civilization. Information on NSS and space exploration is available at http://www.nss.org/.
